NABC is hosting a series of Wholesale Farming Success workshops and tours throughout 2017 to help farmers gain confidence and improve their wholesale operations. Kicking off this series is the "Preparing Your Produce For Market" tour where attendees will be granted behind-the-scenes access to the Puget Sound Food Hub, Ralph's Greenhouse and Skagit Flats Farm. Learn strategies and best practices to apply to your own operation. Please register at the link below so we know to expect you! Drive your own vehicle or carpool with fellow attendees.
Meet the Puget Sound Food Hub's Scott Morris, Operations Manager, and see him demonstrate the hub’s system for efficiently receiving, storing, and delivering products to restaurants and large-scale buyers throughout the Puget Sound region. Learn what wholesale buyers expect from their farmers and how to most effectively and profitably make use of the food hub to reach a larger market.
At Ralph’s Greenhouse, observe the indoor post-harvest washing, packing, and cooling facilities at Ralph’s Greenhouse, a 300+ acre organic farm in Mount Vernon that sells through the Puget Sound Food Hub and to private accounts across the U.S. Hear from Tim Terpstra, Farm Manager, how the farm maintains quality and efficiency while managing its relationships with various wholesale buyers and distributors.
Andy Ross, owner of Skagit Flats Farm, will talk about his experience scaling up to a wholesale-only farm operation, selling primarily to Seattle distributor Charlie’s Produce. Learn how he minimizes post-harvest handling time on his 20 acre organic vegetable farm by packing in the field and shortening delivery time.
