Whatcom Meat Producers
Whatcom Meat Producers
The Whatcom Meat Producers are a group of private Whatcom County farmers and individuals with a unified interest in keeping Whatcom County's only USDA inspected meat slaughter and processing facility open.
The group has come together to evaluate the opportunity and possibility of purchasing Keizer Meats. Due to unfortunate health issues, George and Sherry Keizer are looking to pass ownership of Keizer Meats to a group of investors that will keep the operation running and growing as they originally dreamed, but are unable to fulfill.
Investment Opportunity
In July 2010 a Steering Committee was created from a group of interested local farmers, businesses, and community members to review the Keizer business and opportunity on behalf of the group. The Steering Committee is currently working through a list of due diligence tasks to thoroughly review Keizer's business value and growth opportunity, as well as how to structure the new organization to satisfy both customers (local farmers) and investors.
Contribution to Share in Upfront Due Diligence Fees
As a part of our due diligence, the Steering Committee has identified a few items that will require upfront costs. In an effort to share the costs among all interested investors, we are asking that each potential investor contribute $50. The money will be utilized to pay for items such as a title search, independent business appraisal and any required legal counsel fees. All monies contributed will be handled by the NABC (Northwest Agriculture Business Center). Because the NABC is a 501(c)3 non-profit, you will also receive a tax receipt mailed to you in your name for your contribution.

Feedback Wanted!
The Steering committee is looking for feedback from potential investors and we'd love to hear from you! Please email your thoughts and opinions on the following topics to chandra@scknaus.com. The Steering Committee will be reviewing and taking all feedback into consideration at our August 12 committee meeting. The more insight we have, the better equipped we are to structure the organization to deliver the results you are looking for as an investor.
Topic #1: What is your #1 reason for investing in this organization? And what are your secondary reasons? (i.e. are you looking for a 10% return? are you primarily interested in supporting local agriculture? does your business rely on a local USDA meat processing facility? other??)
Let us know! chandra@scknaus.com
Topic #2: What amount are you thinking of investing? This is in no way a commitment, it's only to help the Steering Committee determine how much funding will be required through non-community sources (i.e. bank loans, gov't grants, etc).
