Impact: All Things Cider

NABC supports marketing efforts along with its partners, which also conduct cider research and provide a wide assortment of cider courses taught by world-class industry experts.

Hard cider is the fastest growing segment of the beverage industry, consumption and production has grown rapidly in Washington State.

Production rose from 1.2 million gallons in 2010 to 2.5 million gallons in 2011 alone, when Washington state produced nearly two hundred thousand gallons of cider.

In partnership with Washington State University and Northwest Cider Association, and funded originally by a 2011 Specialty Crop Block Grant from the WSDA, NABC developed a hard cider business development program which continues to this day, helping to boost Washington’s emerging hard cider industry.

NABC’s Industry Support

NABC supports marketing efforts along with its partners, which also conduct cider research and provide a wide assortment of cider courses taught by world-class industry experts:

Northwest Cider Association

NABC is helping to manage and grow the Northwest Cider Association, a trade organization formed by cider and perry producers throughout the Pacific Northwest to promote awareness of regional artisanal cider and perry.

Already recognized as an international leader for our highly productive apple growing regions, the Northwest is also known for the cider apple research taking place at Washington State University. Workshops were also launched, under the leadership of WSU and NABC, featuring renowned cider experts such as the UK’s celebrated master cider maker Peter Mitchell. Now, in addition to having supported seminars, workshops and educational events for both cidermakers and apple growers, NABC continues to develop a framework to help manage the industry’s explosive growth and establish a Northwest cider culture.

This program funded in part by the Washington State Department of Agriculture Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.
